Turret CCTV Cameras
Pros
Turret cameras are compact so easy place in many different locations. This compact nature also makes them discreet and not easy for criminals to spot, while they are also really easy to move into position and lock off. Additionally, turret cameras work well in the rain as they only have a single glass lens.
Cons
A potential con of turret cameras is that criminals can easily see where they are pointing (and so where they are not). That said, they are less obvious in where they are pointing than a bullet camera and some people like it to be obvious where the camera covers anyway.
Dome CCTV Cameras
Pros
One of the biggest advantages of a dome CCTV camera is that it’s very hard for people to see where they are actually pointing. This can cause potential criminal to think they are covering a wider area. Additionally, their compact dome design is vandal resistant, preventing criminals from taking them out of service.
Cons
Sun and water can affect dome CCTV cameras. Over time, direct sunlight is likely to discolour the plastic dome, while water can affect the image quality and leave streaks on the lens. They’re easily more easily damaged than a turret camera, for example. Due to these factors, we recommend dome CCTV cameras as the best choice for indoor locations.
Bullet CCTV Cameras
Pros
Bullet CCTV cameras are the largest and most obvious cameras we offer. This can be a benefit to you as they are a really clear visual deterrent to criminals. They also have the biggest form factor, which allows space for powerful lighting technology to be added.
Cons
The knuckle joints of bullet cameras can be a disadvantage in two key ways. Firstly, if the camera is struck by a vandal, the knuckle joint can be easily snapped. Secondly, it can be initially difficult to position a bullet camera as the knuckle joints tend to have location notches.
